an old friend from high school (in colorado springs, co) who happens to live here in GA (crazy) sent her co-worker to me for some wedding shower cupcakes last month. she recently sent me some pictures from their event. i don't often get to see the cupcakes on display after they've been delivered, so this is a treat. seeing them the second time around i realized, hey, these are pretty nice cupcakes! :)
i made chocolate and vanilla with white chocolate buttercream. her colors were cornflower blue and silver. the flowers are handmade from fondant with pearl non-pareils. they look yummy and pretty! :) thanks kim & janet from Coca-Cola!

right now i have a toddler ltrying to climb in my lap, and a baby kicking in my belly, and most likely will be typing here shortly with one hand... if that gives any clue as to my ability to take a moment to blog, well, i don't know what does... (commence one hand typing)... i hate beginning each blog with this disclaimer about how busy i am, but really, i am trying to balance the business, home life, kiddos, preparing for our baby boy's arrival... ya know, nesting and projects out the wazoo...
i've had fewer small orders the past couple of months and more weddings or larger orders, which is great because i really enjoy making cakes. i like making cupcakes too, but it's nice to have a change of pace as cupcakes were the majority of my work when i started my business. i've done a couple of orders that i don't have pictures for because i ran out the door to deliver them before i stopped to take a picture (bummer). i've tried to get pictures from the client but that doesn't always happen! my own fault.
anyway, i've captured most of the stuff for the past couple of months. :)
in may i did a big wedding that nearly killed me :) but it was a lot of fun and very fulfilling in the end. the day after that i came down with a horrible campylobacter jejuni infection that laid me out for a week and led to an ER visit to get an IV... lots of fun, let me tell ya. i loved the bride and groom and they were such fun. they were wed in loganville at the vines mansion. i did a topper cutting cake, a groom's cake and 200 cupcakes for them.
yes, that is a dude lifting weights. props to my artistic husband for sculpting this guy!
the topper cake was iced in red fondant, with a silver ribbon, white pindots and a monogram with calla lilies accenting.
one of the worst oversights was getting a close up picture of the bride and groom cupcakes i made for this wedding... omg, they took forever to make but were so striking in the end... i also, in my rushing to get to the wedding, forgot to take pictures of all the designs of the cupcakes... i could shoot myself for this. but, this gives you an idea.
sandwiched between the wedding above and this cake below was the horrendous sickness i endured as described above... i made this cake literally right after i left the ER so it's not PERFECT, but i like the color contrast with the green peonies. this was just buttercream iced.
here are a couple of smaller cupcake/cake orders i did... the first one + cake was for a friend... she gave a 1/2 dozen cupcakes to her friend who in turn ordered several cupcakes from me with a similar design...

i did this one and the one below in late april, but what the heck... the one below was for our neighbor and so for his gift we bought one of these magnetic bendy things from REI and i put it on the cake. :) hopefully he licked the chocolate icing off before taking it to work and sticking it on something...
then there was this super fun yo gabba gabba cake... i loved making this cake! this was for a 4 year old birthday party held at DAC Kids in Acworth.
i did this "wedding" cake for a 50th wedding anniversary party for a couple who never had a fancy cake or the opportunity to do a tasting... this cake was for the parents of the lady who catered the first wedding i did. thankfully she loved my work enough to hire me for this job! what a privilege! the family did the flowers so it looks a little bare but it was a beautiful color combo i thought...
i did this cake for a friend who works for randstad staffing... her co-worker was celebrating her 25 year anniversary so i did a 14" cake in the randstad colors.
and finally, a last minute wedding cake for a client who had ordered one from target, only to receive a call from them ten days before their wedding, to find out that they would be unable to fulfill their order due to distributor issues... this is the second time i have had a call from a desperate bride asking for help last minute after ordering a cake from a big box store who either lost or failed to fulfill their order! i am so proud of how this cake turned out. this bride and groom were married at the Hilton Garden Inn in Alpharetta, the same weekend the big Phish show was going on... my husband helped deliver the cake and we amused ourselves with the thirty somethings lurking around the hotel trying to relive their twenty-something Phishhead experience... it's kinda funny, of course we're big fans, but we know what that's like, i mean, they're soooo awesome, maaaan.
thanks for reading my enormously long blog post... this may be all you get for awhile!! :)
much love friends and future clients...
